In 1986 something happened, I can't tell you what, but the scene was changed. A good bunch of bands began to appear, and incorporated a new concept of punk in the city... something more consistent, idealistic and earnest.
Musically, the shitty 77' UK punk touch goes out and new influences come, mainly european, Norway, Finland, Sweden, etc., ie, raw thrash and fucking noise!! Besides, some cool fanzines supporting the scene, for example, the brilliant NUEVA FUERZA that was very decent editorial of union in the scene between punks and metal heads. He made very good foreigners records reviews and supported the local scene. You can check out the #3 and #7 and we will post more numbers fucking soon!!! It was run by JANETH ALZATE. More great fanzines was DESOLATED who was run by WALTER YEPES (drums in SOCIEDAD VIOLENTA), and DEIPELOTE ZINE.
In Colombia there was never any dictatorship in contrast with Chile, Argentina or Brazil, but the social situation was very bad due to economics problems of the country. This led me generate a very sensitive issue; the SICARIATO (hired killers), or groups of assholes that were responsible for killing for money. This obviously accompanied with narcotraffic and conflict of interest with the police and the fucking ruling class. This made hard to live in Colombia because the streets were a mess.
When the punk scene in Medellín (I will refer to Medellín because that's where punk was born in Colombia. This doesn't mean that other cities haven't punk bands, WARRIORS OF THE LAST DAYS (WORLD CLASS PUNK comp.) were from CALI, or LA PESTILENCIA and LAS FARK from BOGOTÁ, but can't talk of 'scene' in Bogotá until the early 90's ...) began to mature and becomes more organized, the SICARIATO started to see it as a threat so the punk becomes to be more underground. The shows were hard access, but didn't lost the strength of the movement. At this time there are several good bands, most with vinyl stuff! From this we have real South American hardcore classics (so incredible, never reedited!) like the RASIX / SOCIEDAD VIOLENTA split (7'', 1989), MEDELLIN (7'', 1989) by HERPES, THRASH/HARDCORE/PUNK (7'', 1990) by HP.HC, GUERRA BACTEREOLOGICA (7'', 1991) and the BRIGADA SUBTERRANEA (7'', 1992) by BASTARDOS SIN NOMBRE, LATINOAMERICA (7'', 1990) by RASIX, SER Y NO SER (7', 1989) and MEDELLIN PRESENTA A: RDT (7'', 1990) by RESTOS DE TRAGEDIA, the CONTRA TODO CORRUPTOR / AVERXION split (7'', 1991), IDEAS REVOLUCION ADOLECENTE (7'', 1989) and the ATENTADO TERRORISTA (7'', 1990) by I.R.A, S/T (7'', 1990) by ATAQUE DE SONIDO (7'', 1990), Y AHORA QUÉ...? (7'', 1989) by IMAGEN, among others. Speaking of records, you can't forget the brutal ESTAMOS EN LA CIMA tape comp. - 1989 (DISKORDIA, DEXKONCIERTO, CRIMEN IMPUNE, ATAQUE DE SONIDO, HP.HC, HERPES, B.S.N.), LA CIUDAD PODRIDA LP comp. - 1990 (B.S.N., HP.HC, CRIMEN IMPUNE, DISKORDIA, ATAQUE DE SONIDO, DEXKONCIERTO and R.D.T), and the infamous MEDELLIN CONTRA EL QUINTO CENTENARIO tape comp. - 1991 (IMAGEN, DESAHOGO, G.P, HARTOS DE TI, CENSURA, AGRESION SOCIAL, DESASTRE). This last one marks the end of the little-known punk and thrash second wave in Medellin. Why? because then the punk movement in Colombia changed with the entry of middle-class punks incorporating new thoughts and ideas. Lots of new bands and a bunch of musical subgenres such as crossover thrash, crust, etc. Anyway, this period left their influences in the following acts like AGRESION SOCIAL, FERTIL MISERIA, CENSURA (his LP is killer!), HARTOS DE TI, IRA or DEXKONCIERTO, retained the old spirit for long.
A brief overview of the musical periods lived in Medellín since the mid 80's with MUTANTEX, PESTES, PN ... until now, was portrayed in a 3xCD called simply "PUNK MEDALLO" (vol.1, 2, 3). A true compilation that came quickly, and has a proposal much more truthful than RODRIGO D: NO FUTURO comp. On this, I need to say this soundtrack from the movie of the same name is a shame, not the quality of the bands that is really high (punk side and the metal side), but because it's a farce. In the Punk Medallo post talked extensively about this, and in the NUEVA FUERZA #3, is engaged a review of the film remembering out that originally it was going to show the punk scene, also the union with the parallel metal scene (remember bands like PARABELLUM, MASSACRE, REENCARNACION, were very close to the punk ambient, sharing beers, gigs and even gang members!), however, the film doesn't more than associate the punk with the sicariato and treat such violence as the same (kill for money v/s criticize intelligently). The soundtrack originally it would be only punk, but many bands realized the lie and refused to attend, therefore the metal contribution in that LP. RODRIGO D: NO FUTURO has absolutely nothing to do with "Punk Medallo"!!.
Okay, we have already posted most of the 7''s listed here, but still some great tunes missing! More noise?! Take it easy, this is damned punk rock with hardcore edges! CONTRA TODO CORRUPTOR (= C.T.C., Against all corruptors) / AVERXION SPLIT EP from 1991 it's a catchy one with inteligent lyrics. If you are familiarized with the MRR early 90's era, probably you have already readed the #100, with the next review: "Medellin socks the world's solar plexus once again with two more harsh Colombian does. AVERXION unleashes four meaty cuts of primitive punkiness wrapped in acrimonious anti-authoritarianism. CONTRA TODO CORRUPTOR thrashes along at 1/2 mph faster than their buddies and are just as uncompromisingly raw and equally as miffed. More fuel or the growing inferno in this corner of the world".
Finally, in MRR (I don't know in other international fanzines) has appear some Columbian Reports, and you can see the importance of the social situation in the punk scene, you know, is very important the context. In the #29, the first mention of a Columbian band (LAS FARK, pre PESTILENCIA), then in 1987, the second mention in the #53, with the first COLUMBIAN REPORT (I can scan it if you are interesed). After, with more frecuency the Medellín word mentioned, especially between 1988-1991.
